Social media is where many Indian customers discover brands, compare options and ask questions. But posting randomly rarely brings business. Here is a practical playbook we use with clients.
Pick the right platforms (not all of them)
You do not need to be everywhere. Choose based on where your customers spend time:
- Instagram — fashion, food, beauty, interiors, weddings, travel and most consumer brands.
- Facebook — local communities, older audiences and lead-generation ads.
- YouTube — explainers, tutorials and product demos; strong for search too.
- LinkedIn — B2B services, manufacturing, recruitment and professional firms.
- WhatsApp — not for broadcasting at strangers, but for conversations, catalogues and follow-ups with people who opted in.
Two platforms done consistently beat five done badly.
Define what success looks like
Followers and likes feel good but don’t pay bills. Decide what you actually want:
- Enquiries via DM or WhatsApp
- Website visits to a product or service page
- Store visits or bookings
- Brand awareness in a new city
Then track that number every month.
Build a simple content system
Most businesses struggle with consistency, not ideas. A simple weekly mix works well:
- Show your work: before/after, finished projects, products in use.
- Teach something: quick tips, common mistakes, how-it-works explainers.
- Show people: your team, your process, your customers (with permission).
- Make an offer: a clear reason to contact you now.
Short vertical videos (Reels and Shorts) currently get the most reach on most platforms. They do not need to be polished — clear, useful and authentic usually wins.
Write captions that start conversations
- Lead with the benefit or hook in the first line.
- Write the way your customers speak — Hinglish is fine if that is your audience.
- End with one clear action: "DM ‘PRICE’ for the rate list" or "WhatsApp us to book".
Use paid ads to scale what already works
Once a post performs well organically, it is a good candidate for an ad. Meta ads let you target by location, age and interests, and lead forms collect enquiries without leaving the app.
Keep it disciplined:
- Start with a small daily budget.
- Test two or three creatives at a time.
- Judge results by cost per enquiry, not cost per click.
Reply fast
Speed matters. A DM answered in five minutes converts far better than one answered the next day. Use saved replies, quick links to your catalogue and WhatsApp automation for common questions — but keep a human available.
Review monthly
Every month, look at your top posts, the enquiries they brought and what they had in common. Do more of that, drop what isn’t working, and repeat.
